April 5, 2018
7:00 PM
Richland Library Main, Auditorium
Join the USC Experimental Music Workshop (Greg Stuart, director) at Richland Library Main for a performance of poet Robert Lax’s stunning Black/White Oratorio (1997). For speaking chorus reciting color names, Black/White Oratorio is a hypnotic and deeply moving experience, exploring the possibilities of sound, rhythm, and repetition. The Workshop also performs Mieko Shiomi’s ephemeral Boundary Music (1963), presents USC School of Music graduate students Isabel Ong and Jenny Davis in duo performance, and welcomes Brian Glavey (USC Department of English) to deliver a pre-performance talk about Lax’s poetry. In conjunction with this performance, Greg Stuart (USC School of Music) and Naomi Falk (USC School of Visual Art and Design) open their installation A line through the earth (2018), which will run throughout the month of April in the library's 2nd floor Pop-Up space.
